Upcoming Weekend & A look Back

Well, I know I still haven't posted about the STW TEC#43 weekend that I led over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend... But I'm actually still trying to process all of the amazing things that happened throughout the weekend. And come to terms with the fact that I won't be participating in the weekends for a while...

I will say this: TEC #43 was amazing. In so many ways.
And, once I can put down what I'm feeling into words, I will post about it, because I feel that I need to get it on here, and I know that some people that actually read this would be interested to hear about it.

Until then, here's my life:

School is insane. I thought 4 classes would be a breeze, but there's so much to do! And oh, so little time! But I'm making it... It is after all ONLY the 3rd week of classes. And not to mention the FIRST FULL WEEK!

Aside from school, everything is pretty much the same... Oh, except I did turn 26 years old last Saturday the 21st! And it wasn't nearly as painful as 25... but talk to me again with the 3-0 comes and I'm positive my reaction will be different. It was a very quiet weekend, spent with friends that I love. And my family.

This coming weekend... I head home to Wilmington tomorrow. Friday afternoon I'll be heading to Kure Beach for BAG Lady Retreat! And before anything is said about the 'bag lady' BAG stands for Blessed And Gifted! I went to my first BAG Lady weekend last year in January and LOVED every minute of it. So I'm VERY excited to be going again this year!

Other than that, I think that's all I've got going on. I'll post soon about TEC... perhaps the Spirit will move me this weekend with words that I can put down on this blog... And I'll be with one wonderful woman who was at the same TEC weekend with me... Maybe she can help me out! :)

Spring Semester: 2012

Classes have started here at UNC Pembroke, and the semester is off and running- FULL SPEED AHEAD.

I am lucky to have only 13 credit hours, which breaks down to 4 classes this semester. I have 3 education classes, and one history. Here's the breakdown...
ELE 2030- Arts Integration for Elementary Schools (involves music, art, drama, dance...etc.)
ELE 4030- Living in a Global Society (this is basically how to teach elementary Social Studies)
EDN 2900- Research and Writing for Education (resumes, grants, research, blogs!, etc)
HST 4300- The History of Nazi Germany (wait for it.... I AM SO EXCITED!)

Okay, yes, my education classes won't be too crazy this semester, and I don't have too heavy of a work load.. but can I just tell you all how genuinely excited I am about that Nazi Germany history class? I LOVE that time period in history. And not even from the American standpoint, but from that of Germany. So many things were going on during that time, and yes, most of the things that happened were terrible, but it's always interested me. Perhaps because my Daddy loved World War II and had hundreds (yes, hundreds) of books about WWII, Hitler, the SS, etc. My teacher today called the History Channel the "Hitler" Channel. (it was a great joke in the class..) and it's true! Half of what comes on the history channel is about Hitler, the war, Holocaust, or the Third Reich.

So, yes, I'm actually excited for this semester. I'm in education classes with people I don't know that well, (except for Mary) because all of my closest friends are doing their internship student teaching this semester. That is going to take sometime to get used to. It's hard to go into the curriculum lab in the education building and not see 10 people you know. Or be able to complain about a teacher or an assignment to someone that actually understands it.

As far as everything else in my life...
This Friday I'll be leaving for Fuquay-Varina for my last TEC weekend until after I graduate and have a job. STW TEC#43 is going to be amazing. There are so many youth on team, as well as adults, that have dedicated the past 4 months to making preparations for this weekend. And I can NOT wait until I get to see this weekend start rolling into action! I'll be sure to post about that once I'm back... I believe I've mentioned TEC on this blog before and how much of my life I've spent doing TEC weekends and all that. But just to reiterate my point, TEC changed my life 11.5 years ago, and I will never really be able to let it go. Which is why I'm calling my absence from the next few team a hiatus... meaning, I will be back. Once a public school system decides to hire me. :)

That's all I've got for now...

A whole new year! And lots of Catch-up

Well.. I've got a TON of catching up to do...
-Fall semester was crazy, stressful, wonderful, stressful, and CRAZY and it's over and I made WONDERFUL grades! :)
-I got to spend A LOT of time with friends and family that I LOVE over the 4 weeks I was home on break.
-Jeremy came home on leave from Pensacola... He's been in my life for over 10 years and has always been one of the best friends I could ever ask for. Over the course of him being on leave this go around we decided that something had changed with our friendship and we saw each other in a different way... So... We're trying this relationship thing out and see how it goes. :) So far so good... but then again we're 12 hours away from each other.. Me in NC and him in FL. Apparently this has been a long time coming in his eyes, and I just happened to be in the right place and time in my life to welcome this in. I'm happy. He's happy. Hopefully you'll be happy for us.
-New Year's Eve was a doozy... I had a little too much fun, but it was a great night spent with some lovely people listening to Wilmington's "Machine Gun" Band at Wild Wing Cafe! Machine Gun is an amazing 80's/90's cover band and also writes their own music... and I have the pleasure of knowing 3 out of 4 of their members thanks to Cousin Marcus!
-I came back to Lumberton this past Thursday night and began to unpack and re-organize everything... that's currently at a standstill because I can't actually get organized until I go purchase my books for school which I'm going to do tomorrow... but all of my clothes are hanging in my closet and my Keruig Coffee Machine is sitting nicely in my kitchen!
-I got a Beta fish! I've had several Beta's in the past... Duke, Daisy, and Sheldon were wonderful fish. (Duke- named for Duke Blue Devil's- Sheldon was named for former Duke basketball player Sheldon Williams, and Daisy started out as JJ as in JJ Riddick but became Daisy after I realized it was a boy fish..) So following in my Duke Basketball theme kick... This lovely crowntail beta is a purple-ly color and looks like a PLUM... so her/his name is Plumlee! For the Plumlee brothers (Miles, Mason, and Marshall).
-Last TEC meeting for STW TEC#43 is THIS SATURDAY! and I'm so excited for the upcoming weekend Starting January 13!

Okay. That's it for now. I'll post again about classes and such once I get that going on Monday! LAST SEMESTER OF CLASSES!!! Next fall semester I'll be at Peterson Elementary in Red Springs doing my internship!
